About Our Music School
Primavolta Mobile Music Tuition was founded in Blackpool in 2006, starting with just one music teacher in the area. The teacher had a vision of providing music tuition that a learner would enjoy without having the commitment of weekly travel. The idea was to have the music school travel to the home of the student for not much more money than if you went into a local town to a music school with premises.
Primavolta Mobile Music Tuition very quickly developed further initiatives to keep the long term interest of the student going through the natural ups and downs of having lessons. The first such scheme came with our 'Pupil of the Month' scheme (see below). The idea was to reward excellent work by selecting one pupil of the school to receive a certificate, small prize and recognition on our website. This scheme was so popular we launched our 'Pupil of the Year' scheme in 2010.
(BELOW) - We are set up like a school. As such, we reward our students to encourage them to aim high at all times. This bespoke, framed print is a 'Pupil of the Month' reward provided to students. They are made to suit the individual winner as something to be very proud of if won.
Every pupil was given a 'Point Log'. The log was given to each student for stickers to be placed in each week. For every good week of practice in the 'Pupil Log', a sticker was given to the student. Bonus points are rewarded for extra special work, exam results and participation in the charity concert. The student with the most points at the end of the school year wins the title 'Pupil of the Year'. They receive an engraved ipod shuffle and certificate as a prize. Our first such 'Pupil of the Year' was Lois Law from Blackpool.
(BELOW) - Our Pupil 'Playing Diary' is used to record and reward work taking place for our students. This allows you to see the progress being made over the course of a year. It also includes the basics of music theory as a reference guide and room to make notes about your instrument, achievements and learning. This is included within the lesson cost. This is exclusive to our music school - ask your teacher to make sure you receive one.
Also in 2010 we had enough demand in our initial territory, Blackpool and Preston, to launch our own music examination centre at Newton Bluecoat School near Kirkham. The centre now operates twice a year and has become very popular with outstanding results with a high level of disctinctions.
Over the last few years we have interviewed and taken on teachers of numerous musical instruments. These teachers are interviewed carefully and are expected to deliver tuition to the same high standards, with the same concepts applied across the school. We now have teachers of most mainstream instruments and even some unusual instruments such as the harp!
In 2011 we launched Primavolta outside of Lancashire for the first time. Primavolta now has excellent teachers focussed on the Sheffield area and the concept has started to snowball in the area. We now cover Sheffield, Chesterfield, Leeds and Barnsley in the Yorkshire and Derbyshire areas.
Moving to 2012, Primavolta continued moving forward. 2012 saw our first charity music night. The night was designed to allow students the chance to showcase their talents while raising money for fantastic local charity work. Our first charity was Brian House Children's Hospice in Blackpool. We plan to hold similar events in future years. As pupil numbers develop in other parts of the UK we also plan to hold similar charity events there.
Also in 2012 we launched Primavolta across Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Cheshire and North Staffordshire. We also took the Primavolta concept to the south for the first time when we launched in London.
In 2012 we also started releasing a series of our own music books. These books have been written and developed with the backing of years of teaching experience. We hope that these workbooks will enhance learning within the school and continue to develop over the coming years.
Finally in 2012 saw the launch of this new website. The vision was to provide a useful website to both student and teacher while being informative to prospective new students. The concept of our student log on area was developed. This was designed to allow the student access to resources while they are a member of the school. The resources would be updated to constantly improve 'library' available to the student. The library would include 'in house' developed music theory worksheets and music. Students would also be able to log on to access exam results and letters for future events. Video performances and demonstrations will also be included to add to the learning experience of pupils of Primavolta Mobile Music Tuition.
During 2013, Primavolta became the biggest specialist mobile music school in the UK. We now cover large areas of England and Wales with new towns and cities being added all the time. We also introduced our 'Composer of the Year' competition to give all our students further wider music opportunities. The winner of this competition has their music professional produced.
In 2014, we brought our mobile music concept to Scotland with an early launch in Glasgow. In 2014, Primavolta had a team of 174 teachers (and growing) across the UK offering tuition in Acoustic Guitar, Banjo, Baritone, Bass Guitar, Bassoon, Bouzouki, Cello, Clarinet, Cornet, Double Bass, Drums, Electric Guitar, Euphonium, Flute, Harmonica, Harp, Harpsichord, Horn, Keyboard, Mandolin, Music Theory, Oboe, Organ, Piano, Piccolo, Production, Recorder, Saxophone, Singing, Songwriting, Tin Whistle, Trombone, Trumpet, Tuba, Ukulele, Viola and Violin.
So far in 2015, we have already launched our very own automated booking system for new music students. This contacts our teachers by text and email within seconds of your enquiry coming in. It also communicates with the student every step of the way. This is unique to Primavolta and designed to give the best possible customer experience. We have also redesigned our playing logs and invested in a playing diary for every student of Primavolta. This is our very own book designed to support music lessons and encourage all students. It includes basic music theory terms and important details for music tuition with us.
After 10 years, Primavolta founder Kevin Smith decided to sell Primavolta. Wanting to pursue a balanced teaching and family life. Handing over on 11th August 2016 to Tom Southerton, who took over as the director of Primavolta, An equally passionate and experienced teacher who is prepared to develop the schools' website, breath of instruments and coverage accross the UK on a much wider scale.
In 2016, we are celebrating 10 years providing music teachers for students. We hope you can celebrate with us!
